Crispy baked tofu marinated in ginger and sesame, served with a rich homemade peanut sauce.
Why you'll love it
Tofu has a pretty neutral flavour, which means you can easily transform it with a good marinade! Here we use ginger, sesame oil and agave syrup to give the tofu a delicious flavour on its own. Want to take it even further? Whip up a rich peanut sauce to go alongside it.
Tips and variations
- The longer you press the tofu, the crispier it gets — don't skip this step.
- No peanut butter? Almond or cashew butter work well in the sauce too.
- Serve with rice, crushed peanuts and steamed vegetables for a complete meal.

Method
- Pat the tofu dry with kitchen paper. Wrap it in a clean tea towel, place something heavy on top and press for at least 2 hours — the longer, the crispier it gets.
- Mix all the marinade ingredients except the cornflour. Cut the tofu into cubes and toss with the marinade. Let it sit for at least 2 hours.
- Preheat the oven to 180 °C and line a baking tray with baking paper.
- Toss the tofu with the cornflour and spread it on the tray. Bake for 20 minutes until golden and crispy, turning halfway through.
- While the tofu bakes, make the peanut sauce: combine all the ingredients in a small saucepan and simmer gently, stirring, until it thickens to your liking. Start with 100 ml of water and add the remaining 50 ml if it gets too thick.
- Serve the tofu with the peanut sauce as soon as it's ready. Delicious with rice, crushed peanuts and vegetables.
